Wisdom Teeth Removal by Comfortable Care Dental
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth extraction is a common oral surgery procedure but requires a high degree of skill to remove wisdom teeth that are impacted or that have not yet erupted. Often time’s patients are placed under oral sedation to create a more comfortable procedure. There may be some minor risks involved when extracting wisdom teeth such as discomfort, bleeding, swelling and lower lip numbness but these are not lingering side effects. The disadvantages to keeping wisdom teeth far outweigh the problems associated with their removal including the potential shifting of surrounding teeth, jaw pain and interruptions with normal sinus functionality. Your consultation will reveal your need to get your wisdom teeth removed.
Wisdom Teeth Recovery
Many patients are concerned with the recovery time after their wisdom teeth are removed. The recovery time typically takes about one week, with the gum area being healed in about three weeks. After your wisdom teeth removal, you can expect some bleeding which can be controlled with moist gauze placed over the extraction site. Some people have utilized teabags over the extraction site because they offer benefits in the form of clot formation.
Most people experience facial swelling after wisdom teeth removal. This can be relieved with the application of ice wrapped in a cloth as it is applied to the swollen facial area. For pain or discomfort from the extraction, we may prescribe medications and antibiotics to keep infections clear of the surrounding tissue area.
