Teeth Bonding by Comfortable Care Dentistry

Teeth bonding, or dental bonding, are a cosmetic dentistry procedure that helps correct the problems associated with chipped, slightly misaligned, or otherwise imperfect teeth. The procedure gets its name because of the application of a tooth-colored resin material that is “bonded” to the tooth using a high intensity curing light.

Teeth Bonding Uses

Dental bonding can be considered to fix the following dental issues:

  • To repair decayed teeth (resins are used to fill cavities)
  • To repair chipped or cracked teeth
  • To improve the appearance of discolored teeth
  • To close spaces between teeth
  • To make teeth look longer
  • To change the shape of teeth
  • As a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings
  • To protect a portion of the tooth’s root that has been exposed when gums recede

Benefits of Dental Bonding

Bonding can be used to remedy many effects of damaged or unsightly teeth. In addition to its multiple applications, bonding is one of the most common and least expensive cosmetic dentistry procedures available. Teeth bonding are often used as a substitute to porcelain veneers, Invisalign, and crowns. The procedure can usually be done in one short office visit unless multiple teeth are involved, and requires little to no removal of tooth enamel.

There are however some limitations to the restorative impacts that dental bonding can have, as it is generally best suited for small cosmetic changes. Dr. Kostrzewski will most likely recommend dental bonding for temporary correction of cosmetic defects, and for correction of teeth in areas of very low bite pressure (for example, front teeth). The decision to receive dental bonding will greatly depend on your personal conditions and your goals.

Teeth Bonding Consultation

The consultation between you and Dr. Kostrzewski will determine what dental concerns can be remedied with dental bonding. He will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth that may involve x-rays and an evaluation of your teeth and gums. During your consultation Dr. Kostrzewski will discuss if you are a candidate for the cosmetic problems that bonding can correct, such tooth decay, cracked or chipped teeth, gaps, tooth discoloration, “short teeth,” and more. If your teeth are extensively damaged you may benefit from a more restorative procedure that meets more long-term goals.
